Your lap, with the numbers to prove it.

Track day, mountain pass, rally or plain dashcam: YouMetry lays speed, G-force, revs, pedals and lap times over your video, read from your GoPro, your OBD-II adapter or your lap-timing box — then replays the route in 3D over real terrain. Nothing to install in the car.

What it is for, in a car

  • Prove the lap: lap time, best lap, gap to best and sector are on the picture — laps detected on their own from GPS, or taken from RaceChrono and Lap Legend.
  • Understand your braking: a corner-by-corner table — minimum speed, braking speed, lateral G, lap after lap — and a “corner” gauge that shows it on the picture.
  • Let the engine speak: revs, throttle, pedal, gear, temperatures, boost pressure, read live from the OBD-II port with a twenty-franc Bluetooth adapter.
  • Review the line: the lap replayed in 3D over real terrain and aerial imagery, with the car in its exact spot — as a spectator for fun, as a coach to improve.
  • Publish cleanly: finished video up to 4K, or a transparent ProRes 4444 / PNG layer for Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve or Premiere; YouTube live with the gauges.

What YouMetry reads, in your car

  • A GoPro with GPS: position and speed are already in the MP4, nothing to export.
  • Live OBD-II over Bluetooth (BLE adapter), or MF4/MDF logs from a CAN recorder.
  • RaceChrono and Lap Legend exports, laps and sectors included; .vbo and CSV files from Dragy, VBOX and Garmin.
  • A plain GPX track from your phone or watch, for any camera.
  • The YouMetry mobile app, which records GPS, OBD-II and lap times with the screen off, shows on Android Auto and triggers the GoPro.

The car gauges

Speedometer, rev counter, pedals and steering wheel, G-meter, lap timer with gap to best, track map with position, map, altitude and slope, temperatures and boost pressure. Every gauge moves and resizes with the mouse; a ready layout awaits each world, and you can draw your own dials with YouMetry Skins.

How to do it

  1. Film with the GoPro GPS on — or start the YouMetry mobile app: it records GPS, OBD-II and lap times, and its sync flash lines the data up with the video on its own.
  2. Open the video in YouMetry: the data file of the same name loads with it. Pick the Car world.
  3. Laps are detected; place your gauges, read the corner table, replay the lap in 3D.
  4. Export: burned-in video, transparent layer for editing, or YouTube live.

Worth knowing

  • A GoPro or phone GPS gives 10 to 18 points per second at best; for hundredths on the lap timer, an external receiver does better — RaceChrono, Dragy or VBOX are read as they are.
  • OBD-II gives neither brake pressure nor clutch on most cars: the brake shown is estimated from deceleration, and the app says so.
  • Nothing goes to a server: videos and data stay on your Mac or PC. The free version is complete; only export is limited to 5 clips of 30 seconds at 720p, for 10 days.

Questions

How do I show speed and lap times on a track video?

Film with a GPS GoPro or record with the YouMetry mobile app, open the video in YouMetry: speed is read from the file, laps are detected from the track, and the gauges land on the picture. Export as a video or a transparent layer.

Do I need a special box for engine data?

No: a Bluetooth Low Energy OBD-II adapter (Vgate iCar Pro, OBDLink CX, Veepeak BLE+) plugged in under the steering wheel is enough. The mobile app records it; the desktop app also reads it live.

Does it work with an ordinary dashcam?

Yes: add a GPX track from your phone or watch, or the mobile app recording, and sync the data with the picture by dragging its strip under the playback bar.

Does YouMetry replace RaceChrono or RaceRender?

It complements RaceChrono, which times laps on the phone: YouMetry reads its export and takes care of the picture, on a big screen. Compared with RaceRender or DashWare, it adds 3D over terrain, live OBD-II and live streaming — see the comparison.
