Your DJI drone telemetry, on the video.

Next to each video, your drone writes a small .SRT file: position, altitude, camera settings. YouMetry reads it, works out speed and trajectory, lays the gauges on the picture and replays the flight in 3D over the real terrain.

What YouMetry reads

  • The .SRT file of DJI drones — Avata, Mini, Air, Mavic, FPV… — in its several flavours.
  • The telemetry embedded in the MP4 of recent devices (Osmo Action 4, 5 and 6, Avata 2, Mavic 3, Mini 4 Pro, Osmo Pocket 3): no side file needed.
  • Several SRT files from the same flight, joined end to end using the drone’s clock.
  • The shooting settings written by the drone: ISO, shutter speed, aperture.

How to do it

  1. In DJI Fly, turn on Video subtitles (camera settings). The drone then writes an .SRT next to each .MP4.
  2. Copy the video and its .SRT into the same folder, without renaming them.
  3. Open the video in YouMetry: the file with the same name loads with it, already in sync.
  4. Pick a gauge layout, drag the gauges where you want them, then export: a finished video, or a transparent layer for your edit.

What you get

  • Speedometer, altitude, vertical speed, horizon, compass, mini-map, distance from home.
  • The flight replayed in 3D over terrain and aerial imagery, with the track coloured by speed or altitude.
  • Export as transparent ProRes 4444 or PNG for Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve or Premiere — or a video with the gauges burnt in.

Good to know

  • A DJI drone’s SRT holds neither speed nor attitude: YouMetry computes them from the GPS, after cleaning up its jitter. The horizon and sticks shown are therefore estimates, and the app says so.
  • Osmo Action cameras only record position when paired with the GPS remote; without it, only the motion sensors remain.
  • 3D terrain downloads on demand, once; after that everything works offline.

Questions

Where is my drone’s SRT file?

On the memory card, next to the video, with the same name and the .SRT extension. If it is missing, “Video subtitles” was not enabled in DJI Fly when you flew.

Can you show a DJI drone’s speed on the video?

Yes. The SRT does not contain it, but YouMetry computes it from the GPS positions and shows it as a dial, a number or a graph.

Do I need an account or a connection?

No. No account, nothing is uploaded: your videos and data stay on your computer.
