What your Insta360 records, finally on screen.
After the picture, .insv files carry a data trailer: positions received from the GPS remote or the phone, and gyroscope readings. YouMetry reads it and derives speed, track and lean angle.
What YouMetry reads
- Original .insv files, including both halves of a 360° take (twin files).
- GPS positions when a GPS remote, the phone or a watch was connected during recording.
- The camera’s gyroscope and accelerometer, calibrated against the trajectory to give a measured lean angle.
How to do it
- Pair the GPS remote (or the Insta360 phone app, with stats enabled) before filming.
- Get the .insv files from the card — not the app’s export, which drops the data trailer.
- In YouMetry, open your reframed video, then add the .insv as a data file: its readings land on the picture, and line up by dragging their strip under the playback bar.
What you get
- On a motorcycle: lean angle measured by the gyroscope, not guessed from the GPS.
- Speed, track, G-forces and lap timer when GPS was connected.
- The route replayed in 3D over terrain.
Good to know
- No Insta360 has built-in GPS, X5 and Ace Pro 2 included. Without a paired GPS remote, phone or watch, the file only holds motion sensors: lean angle remains available, speed and track do not.
- You can add position afterwards with a GPX track recorded by another device.
Questions
Can you show speed on an Insta360 video?
Yes, if a GPS source was connected to the camera while filming (GPS remote, phone, watch). Otherwise, add a GPX track to the video in YouMetry.
Why use the .insv rather than the exported video?
Because the data sits at the end of the .insv. The video exported by the Insta360 app no longer contains it.
