Supported sources · Garmin VIRB Edit alternative
VIRB Edit is abandoned. The idea was still a good one.
Garmin VIRB Edit laid G-Metrix data over videos from VIRB cameras. The cameras are no longer sold and the software is no longer updated. YouMetry does the same with any camera — and with the GPX track from your Garmin watch.
Where Garmin VIRB Edit stands
- Free, but abandoned by Garmin: no more updates.
- Built for data from Garmin devices; no DJI SRT, no Insta360.
- 2D map; no transparent layer for editing; no live streaming.
- Points checked when we wrote our comparison.
What YouMetry adds
- The route replayed in 3D over real terrain and aerial imagery, where other software stops at a 2D map.
- Direct reading of today’s sources: DJI SRT and embedded telemetry, GoPro, Insta360, RaceChrono, OBD-II, GPX.
- Export as a transparent layer (ProRes 4444 or PNG) for Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve or Premiere, on top of the finished video.
- A mobile app that records the session, lap times and OBD, plus YouTube live streaming with the gauges.
- Five languages, no account, nothing uploaded to a server. One-time purchase.
Side by side
- Cameras — YouMetry: all of them (GoPro, DJI, Insta360, phone…). VIRB Edit: Garmin.
- Garmin watch — YouMetry: through the activity’s GPX export. VIRB Edit: Garmin files.
- Map — YouMetry: 3D over terrain. VIRB Edit: 2D.
- Development — YouMetry: frequent updates. VIRB Edit: discontinued.
Switching to YouMetry
- Try it with nothing to install: the online trial takes a video with its DJI SRT or a GPX.
- Download YouMetry for Mac or Windows: everything is open in the trial, only export is limited to 30 seconds at 720p.
- Export your Garmin watch or bike-computer activity as GPX from Garmin Connect, give it the video’s name, and open both in YouMetry.
- Pick a layout, drag the gauges into place, export.
Questions
Does YouMetry read Garmin .FIT files?
Not directly: export the activity as GPX from Garmin Connect. The GPX carries position, elevation and time; YouMetry computes speed from it.
How much does YouMetry cost?
A one-time purchase, no subscription: CHF 14 at the launch price. The trial is free with no time limit, with export capped at 30 seconds at 720p. Details on the Licence page.
